Living Pain Free

Western Wisconsin Health is hosting a free orthopedic seminar with Dr. Mark Romzek to discuss total joint replacement and other orthopedic procedures, from the initial signs and symptoms to surgical treatments and recovery.

Our joints are pivotal to every move we make, and joint issues affect people of all ages and in all stages of life. Any damage to the joints from disease or injury can interfere with our movement and cause a lot of pain. Joint pain is extremely common and can affect any part of your body, from your ankles and feet to your shoulders and hands. It can range from mildly irritating to debilitating and may go away after a few weeks, or last for several weeks or months. All too often, we assume joint pain is a normal part of aging that we just have to learn to live with. Whether you have an active lifestyle or more sedentary, the inconvenience of joint pain can put a damper on your plans.

There are many different conditions that can lead to painful joints, but the most common cause is Arthritis. While it is often referred to as a single disease, the term “arthritis” actually covers more than 100 different conditions. Osteoarthritis is one of the most common types of arthritis and usually begins with pain in the affected joint. Symptoms include aching, pain, stiffness, swelling and inflammation of the joint. Symptoms of the pain are often more prominent after a person has been active, but people may also feel pain and stiffness after resting (most commonly in the morning).  For these people, everyday activities, such as walking, driving, standing – even lying down to sleep or rest – become extremely painful and, at times, impossible.

Whatever the cause of joint pain, board certified orthopedic physician, Dr. Mark Romzek provides surgical and non-surgical treatments to patients with orthopedic conditions and injuries. “If you’re experiencing joint pain, talk with your provider about conventional options first, such as physical therapy, exercise, injections, or medications,” advises Dr. Mark Romzek. “Many patients can relieve their pain with conservative care methods, however, when patients have symptoms that do not respond to conservative non-operative treatment that would be the appropriate time to proceed with joint replacement surgery.”

If you or someone you know suffers from joint pain and would like more information about how to get back on your feet and experience a pain-free lifestyle, plan to attend our free seminar on Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at 5:00 pm at Western Wisconsin Health in Baldwin, Wisconsin. A light dinner will be provided. Pre-registration is required. Register online at wwhealth.org or call 715-684-1597.
