Take Care of Yourself with a Mammogram
This October, Western Wisconsin Health is proud to participate in National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Breast cancer is the second most common kind of cancer in women. About 1 in 8 women born today in the United States will get breast cancer at some point.
The good news is that most women can survive breast cancer if it’s found and treated early. A mammogram – the screening test for breast cancer – can help find breast cancer early when it’s easier to treat.
“Breast cancer no longer has a pre-determined outcome,” said Kerry Dixon, Certified Nurse Midwife. “Scientific research and consumer voices have changed the quality and quantity of years for those who are dealing with cancer. At WW Health, we recommended routine health care visits for prevention, early diagnosis and treatment. We are committed to helping people achieve optimal health!” Kerry sees patients at both the main campus and Roberts Clinic.
Western Wisconsin Health Recommendations for Early Breast Cancer Detection in Women without Symptoms:
- Ages 40-49: encouraged to have a screening mammogram every year or talk with your health care provider
- Ages 50-74: should have a screening mammogram every year
- Ages 75 and older: talk with your health care provider about how often to schedule a mammogram
If you are at higher than average risk, your health care provider may recommend a different schedule.
The Imaging department offers the latest technology, including 3D Mammography, which is considered one of the most powerful diagnostic tools available for early detection of breast cancer. This innovative technology produces multiple images of the entire breast allowing our Breast Radiologists to see through the layers of tissue and examine areas of concern.
In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, we will be lighting up our building with the color pink. The pink flood lights will be visible on the south side of the building and visible from Hwy 63 and Interstate I-94 October 1-October 14.
Women that come in for a mammogram during the month of October will receive a gift and be entered into a drawing to win a special edition pink and gold Fitbit. We offer convenient appointments from 8:00 am – 6:00 pm. You can also schedule one during our Women’s Wellness & Baby Expo on Thursday, October 12 from 5:30 – 7:30 pm.
For more information or to schedule an appointment, please call the Imaging Department at 715-684-1395.
